Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Aurora located?

Aurora is located on the 5th floor of the Rice Building (491 Portage Ave. - see our map "here").

The facility is wheelchair accessible.

After hours (evenings & weekends), you need to speak to the security staff on the main floor to access the elevators.

What are the fees for therapy?

We operate on a sliding scale which can be found "here". Our rates are between $13-$78 per 50 minute session.

Who are the therapists?

Our therapists are supervised therapists in the University of Winnipeg's Master's Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy program. It is an intensive Master's degree which takes 3-6 years to complete. Therapists are required to complete the majority of their coursework before they are allowed into practicum, and are supervised by a senior therapist who has been approved to supervise by our professional body.

How long will therapy take?

The length of therapy varies with the complexity and the issues you bring. At Aurora, typically people come anywhere from 2-20 sessions on average. We are limited by the 10 month practicum cycle of our therapists. If by the end you do not feel "done", there are options, and your therapist will talk with you about them as you come close to that time.

Are your fees covered by insurance companies?

Our fees may be covered by various insurance companies or agencies including U of W benefits, Victims of Crime, CFS, and more. Please contact your insurance provider to see if they cover marriage & family therapists.

Do you come from a religous perspective?

Our therapists come from a diversity of backgrounds, but we do not provide therapy from any particular faith base. We recognize that faith is a core experience for many of our clients and we will happily talk with you about your relationship with your faith as you progress through therapy.

How long are your waiting lists?
